This month we are celebrating the Lunar New Year\, writing cards to immigrant families in detention\,  and hosting a screening of the Thomas Edison Film Festival. The film screening will be about an hour with thoughtful and lighthearted films by independent filmmakers from the US\, Japan\, China\, and Kenya. \nBring a dish\, bring a friend! DESCRIPTION:Steelpan Classes for Youth and Adults\n\nThe Steel Pan Ensemble of Orange offers opportunities for adults and children to learn and perform steel pan music. \nThe Steel Pan classes are designed to introduce people to playing Steelpans\, musical instruments originating from Trinidad and Tobago. Participants will get introduced to playing the tenor pan\, double guitar pan\, double seconds pan\, and four-bass pan. Classes are taught by local steel pan musician and educator Jevaun Grant. \nWinter & Spring 2026 Classes: \nYouth classes are currently open to students in middle school and high school. If you have a younger child interested please fill out the form and let us know. \nAdult classes are open to any and all people above the age of 18. \nClasses are currently scheduled for Tuesday evenings: \n\n4:00PM for youth beginners\n5:30PM for youth advanced\n7PM for adults\n\nWinter session runs from Tuesday January 27th weekly until March 17th. DESCRIPTION:Building alternatives beyond the state: Grassroots tactics for social change in the face of repressive governments. \nIn an era when many scholars and activists are questioning both the impartiality of electoral processes and the efficacy of symbolic protests\, advocates are considering – and deploying – other tactics for social change. In this session Sasha Davis will draw upon his over twenty years of research on social movements and political change in colonial contexts which is featured in his new book  Replace the State: How to Change the World When Elections and Protests Fail  (available from the University of Minnesota Press). The session will also be an opportunity for folks to share perspectives on activist tactics and to evaluate the efficacy of different strategies for creating meaningful political change. \nSasha Davis is an activist\, researcher\, educator\, and author.
