SUMMARY:What's the story? A memoir writing class
DESCRIPTION:10-week virtual memoir class offered by UofO\, taught by developmental editor Susan Hasho\n\n\nWhat’s the Story? A Memoir writing class \nDo you have some stories you’d like to tell? There may be stories about your life that you want to tell your children or grandchildren\, perhaps about another country or culture you came from or your parents came from. Was there an experience that changed your life or your neighborhood? How about if you were in the military and you want to share something about that? If you have a desire to share or describe anything that you are fascinated by\, care about or even want to change\, this class is a place to do that. \nWhat’s the Story is a 10-week writing class that intends to provoke\, free and guide anyone to write a memoir that reflects their own unique voice and life experience. There will be interaction with everyone in the class\, homework\, time for each person to talk about their writing or their questions about what they would like to write as well as feedback from the teacher. Anyone who chooses may read their writing at a designated time period during the class. \nSusan Hasho is a developmental editor which is an editor involved in the mysterious process of enabling writers and anyone interested in writing to find their way through the maze of expectations\, judgement and even fear to find the true heart of what they want to write. She has trained and worked as an actor and writer\, and moved into the advertising field to work as a copy editor for advertising agencies and Fortune 500 companies. She began working with writers several years ago as an editor and it became her goal to teach a writing class that would enable people to be as free of self-criticism and inhibiting expectations as possible in order to write clearly and openly with joy.

SUMMARY:Urban Alchemy Summer Reading Group
DESCRIPTION:Join UofO’s summer reading group of the seminal text “Urban Alchemy: Restoring Joy in America’s Sorted-Out Cities” by Dr. Mindy Fullilove\n\n\nWhat if divided neighborhoods were causing public health problems? What if a new approach to planning and design could tackle both the built environment and collective well-being at the same time? What if cities could help each other? \nDr. Mindy Thompson Fullilove\, the acclaimed author of Root Shock\, uses her unique perspective as a public health psychiatrist to explore and identify ways of healing social and spatial fractures simultaneously. Using the work of French urbanist Michel Cantal-Dupart and the American urban design firm Rothschild Doyno Collaborative as guides as well as urban restoration projects from France and the US as exemplary cases\, Fullilove identifies nine tools that can mend our broken cities and reconnect our communities to make them whole. \n— \nThis reading group will be accompanied by interactive Restoration Urbanism activities and walking tours around Orange\, NJ. \nYou can purchase the book here. Use the code ALCHEMY25 at checkout for a 25% discount.

Join us on April\, 28th\, 2021 as we showcase our groundbreaking coalition\, and unveil two new digital platforms that reflect on 4 centuries of inequity\, more than 5 years of transformative organizing\, 150+ community-based observances—and look toward the future. \nA Call Answered: Observing History—Reclaiming the Future \nThrough immersive multimedia storytelling\, A Call Answered… spotlights the change-inspiring work of 5 community-based 400 Years “observances”\, events unearthing and acknowledging America’s timeline of inequality\, and setting the stage for a new century of recovery. \nThe Peoples Pathway to Equity \nHow do you contribute to a sustainable\, equitable\, historically informed future? It starts with the people and places around you. \nIn this space\, you will engage in multimedia activities and the key concepts most critical to understanding and dismantling the ecology of inequality in your community. Across four chapters\, you’ll explore the many insights gathered by the 400 Years of Inequality coalition over five years of learning and organizing together\, introducing you to people from a range of places who have boldly answered the call for equality\, and helping you embark on your own pathway to equity.
