The UofO is a founding partner of the 400 Years of Inequality Project, which issued a call to the nation to observe the 400th anniversary of the first Africans landing at Jamestown. In partnership with The New School, ONE DC, Voices of a People’s History, and Columbia Mailman School of Public Health, UofO created tools to support people to organize more than 100 observances across the US. These ranged from faith-based observances led by local anti-racism committees to a massive Teach-In at the Brooklyn Public Library. Sarah Townley, who organized an observance in Northern Manhattan, reflected, “What a testimony of the necessity of this movement as to how many observances are happening!”
