September Solidarity Potluck
Monday, September 16th, 6pm-8pm

Mondays are usually disliked… UNTIL now! Every 3rd Monday of the month will now be our Solidarity Potlucks starting September 16th at 6pm. No real theme, just bring your favorite dish and come chill out with the people in your community!


What’s the Story? Memoir Class
Begins Wednesday, September 18th, 11am-12:15pm on Zoom
Weekly on Wednesdays through Nov. 20 (10 weeks)

What’s the Story is a 10-week writing class that intends to provoke, free and guide anyone to write a memoir that reflects their own unique voice and life experience. This is a workshop-style interactive course.

Steel Pan Classes
Begin Tuesday, September 24th, Kids: 5:30pm-6:45pm, Adults: 7:15pm-8:30pm)
Weekly on Tuesdays through December 17th

Both the adult and children Steel Pan classes are designed to introduce people to playing Steel Pans, musical instruments originating from Trinidad and Tobago. Participants will get introduced to playing the tenor pan, double guitar pan, double seconds pan, and four-bass pan. Classes are taught by local steel pan musician and educator Jevaun Grant.

The Path Book Group
Begins Monday, October 7, 6pm-7pm
Weekly on Mondays through Nov. 11 (6 weeks), at Hale House and on Zoom

This class will do a “slow read” of The Path, a book by Michael Puett and Christine Gross-Loh. The book has the subtitle “What Chinese Philosophers Can Teach Us About the Good Life.” As a psychiatrist, the instructor Dr. Mindy Fullilove is drawn to this book because it offers such interesting and unexpected advice for seeing our own situation through an ancient lens. Our slow read will allow us to consider the philosophy as well as the life perspectives offered by this lovely book.

Dharma Yoga Level 1
Saturdays, October 12th, 19th, & 26th from 9am-10:30am

Dharma I – A strong practice with basic yoga concepts, postures, introduction to pranayama (breathwork), and potent meditation techniques. Learn more and register here.


Rosedale Cemetery Tour
Sunday, October 13th, 1:30pm-3:30pm, at Rosedale Cemetery

Rosedale Cemetery is offering a tour of the middle section of this 181 year old cemetery on Sunday, October 13th. Join to learn about grave imagery and the people who are buried there, including the first recorded Radium Girl victim.

The tour is about 2 miles of walking. *This is not a UofO event, tickets are $20*

Lunch and Learn with Greg Jarrell

Rev Greg Jarrell, author of Our Trespasses: White Churches and the Taking of American Neighborhoods, will be visiting with us on October 24th from 11am to 2pm. We will be touring Orange, having lunch and learning about his study of the role of white churches in urban renewal in Charlotte, NC. You are welcome to join for all or part. Harvest Festival

Our friends at the Ben Jones Community Garden are hosting their annual Harvest Festival on Thursday, October 24th from 2:30pm-5pm. This event is a celebration of our community’s diversity, culture, and the beautiful harvest season. The festival will bring together our local community to celebrate and showcase their unique offerings. With a variety of activities, and entertainment the BJCG aims to create a vibrant and engaging environment for all attendees.

The Wind Down

The Wind Down returns on October 26th! There will be performances by Cloud Jae, Janetza, and Amanda is Tall.

The Wind Down is a free concert series that features local young emerging artists. The series is produced by Music City Festival organizer Jhette Lafond. Check out previous Wind Down concerts here.

Sewing 101
Monday, November 11th & Wednesday, November 13th (6-9pm)

Zaki Michael is offering a Beginner Sewing Class for UofO Fall Term. In this class you’ll discover the art of sewing and create your own custom projects. You will learn essential sewing machine functions and terminology, and gain hands-on experience.

This class will meet twice on Monday, November 11 and Wednesday, November 13 from 6-9pm. Register for the class here.
