University of Orange invites you to submit works of art in any medium for COUSINS, an art show and contest on the theme of universal interconnectivity and its implications.
“Thinking of all things, people and places in our world as cousins allows us to treat them as relatives. We may not always agree, or even like all of our cousins, but we know that we are related. With many of them, we feel a sense of community and comfort when we are with them.” – Dr. Margaux Simmons
The art show will open on February 14th at The HUUB (35 Cleveland St, Orange NJ).
Submissions can be entered into one of two contests – a children’s contest and an adults’ contest.
COUSINS Rules and Guidelines:
- One submission per person
- Submitted artworks can be in any visual medium (including printed word, video, photography, drawing, painting, sculpture, etc.)
- Submissions need to include an ‘artist statement’ responding to the prompt: “there are an infinite number of cousins. Why did you pick this one?” Suggested length 250 words for adults, 50 words for children.
- If selected for the juried art show, the artwork needs to be delivered to the HUUB by Friday, February 7th, ready to be hung/installed. If you need support with printing or shipping please write to us. We cannot commit to being able to help but we are happy to talk it through.
- There is an adult and a childrens contest but all artwork will be considered for a public gallery show, and therefore all submissions should be family friendly.
- We are very flexible – if you are not sure if your idea fits, please write to us!
- Artworks submitted will be reviewed by a five person jury who will select which works are featured in the art show. The jury will also select 2-3 entries from each contest (adults and childrens) to receive cash prizes ranging from $50 up to $300.
Deadline for submission is January 20th, 2025. Submit your entry here: https://forms.gle/8xAMcwderji2FFSV6
