Marisela Gomez is a scholar activist from Baltimore MD. She received her PHD, MD, and MPH from Johns Hopkins University and has spent more than 20 years engaged in social determinants of health participatory research. Dr. Gomez is a Buddhist in the Thich Nhat Hanh tradition.
Those of us who may not think that we can contribute, we need to re-think this. Because unless we stay present, we will allow this collective energy of challenging and difficult emotions to become ours and it’s like another drop in the bucket of that consciousness. We are adding to it. So we can either be aware and cultivate continuously and mindfully a consciousness of brightness and light and love and compassion or we can become forgetful and become another drop in that negative collective consciousness. This is why we’ve been practicing. We practice for everyday transformation and we practice for moments like this when it is so critical that we generate an energy of love…
