Jan Term 2022: the Year of the Programmatic Tiger

As we begin 2022 with our Jan Term: the Year of the Programmatic Tiger, we are confronted by a new surge in Covid-19 cases, city leadership willing to let real estate developers run amok, and the reality of catastrophic climate change. Ayako Maruyama is an artist, designer, organizer and educator who is a part of our UofO Collective Recovery team. She shared with us that, according to the Chinese zodiac, 2022 is the Year of the Tiger. We read that people born in the Year of the Tiger are vigorous and ambitious, daring and courageous, enthusiastic and generous, self-confident with a sense of justice and a commitment to help others for the greater good.

In 2022, we want to channel the Programmatic Tiger and be bold, enthusiastic and ambitious in our work for justice, equity and community care. During this year’s Jan Term we will read Homeboy Came to Orange, make zines, Stroll n Scroll around Orange, and spend a Lunch ‘n Learn with Edgar Rivera Colon and Mindy Fullilove in discussion about climate change.
