Steel Pan Summer Intensive – Youth & Adult

The Steel Pan Ensemble of Orange offers opportunities for adults and children to learn and perform steel pan music.

The Steel Pan classes are designed to introduce people to playing Steel Pans, musical instruments originating from Trinidad and Tobago. Participants will get introduced to playing the tenor pan, double guitar pan, double seconds pan, and four-bass pan. Classes are taught by local steel pan musician and educator Jevaun Grant.

Youth (beginner) summer intensive is open to students 10-15 (if your student is outside that range and you are interested in future classes please fill out the form also). Classes are on July 29th, 31st, August 4th, 6th from 9am until 12pm. Snack is provided.

Adult summer intensive open to any and all students above the age of 18. Classes are on July 28th, 30th, and August 1st, 5th from 6:30PM- 8:30PM.

Youth (advanced) classes are daily, Monday through Friday, during the weeks of July 28th and August 4th. This class is at capacity.

Classes will be held at The HUUB, 35 Cleveland Street in Orange.

All programs end in a community event and performance the evening of Friday August 8th and a potential performance at the Caribbean Festival in Orange Park on Saturday August 9th.

Classes are pay-what-you-can. We suggest a sliding scale, but donations of any amount are appreciated and the amount you can afford is not a factor in acceptance to the classes. Classes do need to cover their costs in order to run. Any questions about our pay-what-you-can model or inquiries about full scholarships can be sent to info@universityoforange.org
