Steelpan Classes for Youth and Adults

ORANGE STEEL BAND

Orange Steel Band, a part of UofO’s Music City program, offers opportunities for adults and children to learn and perform steel pan music in a lively intergenerational community.

The steel pan classes are designed to introduce people to playing Steelpans, musical instruments from Trinidad and Tobago. Our steel pan band has a full complement of pans, including tenors, double seconds, double guitars, cellos, 4-bass, and 6-bass.

Classes are taught by our band captain Jevaun Grant, a seasoned steel pan musician who has recently completed a steel pan certificate program at the University of Trinidad and Tobago.

We are currently enrolling for our 3rd annual summer intensive.

Youth classes are open to middle and high school students. If you have younger children interested please still fill out the form and let us know.

Adult classes are open to any and all people above the age of 18.

UofOrange is a people’s free school, but our steel pan program does rely on donations in order to run. For this reason, all UofO steel pan classes are offered on a “pay-what-you-can” model. We offer a range of suggested donations, and there is always an option to take the classes for ‘free’.

Orange Steel Band does perform frequently in public, and so photo/media releases are required of students.
