A music city initiative; Dance court is a Free freestyle dance session designed to connect dancers across generations and dance styles.
About Dance Court:
We were inspired by our friends at DS4SI’s Dance Court project to think about making more space for dance in public. We knew Khari Ricks, artist and longtime friend (back to the ORNG Ink days) would be the best person to envision and facilitate a Dance Court in Orange.
Khari says:
“After many years of traveling to New York to dance all night long and to practice with my family there I am making space to play, exchange and learn in my hometown of Orange! Thursday will be open practice, and monthly there will be a free intensive class meant to put dances that are related into context with one another. For example: Jersey Club and House.
I told myself when I started learning to house dance intensively that if I ever got the chance I would lower the barrier of entry for young Black folks who were interested in learning by providing free lessons while paying our legends for their knowledge! I am so proud to say that this is the first iteration of that dream.”
