Steel Pan Band of Orange
The Steel Pan Band of Orange launched this summer during University of Orange’s summer session with both a children’s intensive and an adult intensive! We are continuing the program for kids this fall, weekly from September through December. See below for details. Open to children from Orange and its surrounded cities (incl. East Orange, West Orange, South Orange, Montclair, Irvington, Newark, Maplewood, etc.)
WHAT:
This steel pan class for kids is designed to introduce students to playing Steel Pans, musical instruments originating from Trinidad and Tobago. Participants will get introduced to playing the tenor pan, double guitar pan, double seconds pan, and four-bass pan. Classes are taught by local steel pan musician and educator Jevaun Grant.
WHEN, WHO, WHERE:
Children’s Steel Pan Fall Classes: Weekly on Tuesdays, September 24-December 17. Total of 11 classes for this semester. Classes will not be held on Election Day, Nov. 5, or the week of Thanksgiving, Nov. 26.
Open to children in 5th grade through 9th grade.
@ The HUUB, 35 Cleveland Street, Orange, NJ 07050
COST:
These classes have a sliding scale donation to participate. We suggest a donation of $20-$50 per class ($220-$550 for 11 classes). If those price points don’t work for you, you can indicate that on the application form. We would like these workshops to be available to everyone! All donations go towards supporting Steel Pan classes in Orange.
